What is The Odyssey?
The Odyssey is an ancient Greek epic attributed to Homer. It follows Odysseus, king of Ithaca, after the Trojan War as he struggles to return home to Penelope and Telemachus. Alongside monsters and gods, the epic asks deep questions about loyalty, hospitality, pride, identity, and the meaning of home.
Reading note: Homer opens the epic partway through events and tells many adventures as flashbacks. These learning episodes follow the poem's storytelling journey in a simplified way. They are original age-adapted retellings, not translations of Homer's exact lines.
